working statement of faith

WE BELIEVE

1. The Bible is the inspired and authoritative word of God:

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17  ESV

2. God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, is the one-body community to which we are welcomed:

“There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV

3. Humankind is condemned by sin and knows brokenness apart from God:

” For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 ESV

4. Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, the exact imprint of God:

“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3 ESV

5. Jesus Christ is the ONE by whom we are reconciled to God:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 ESV

6. In God we have our healing and our wholeness:

“There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.” Exodus 15:25b-26

7. There is resurrection of our earthly bodies from death to life:

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11 ESV

8. The Gospel, or Good News, is always about remittance of sins and reconciliation:

“In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 ESV

9. We are called to justice and mercy:

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 ESV

10. We are called to be people of peace:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 ESV

11. Love is the greatest commandment:

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 ESV

12. The Body of Christ are co-regents and must take this responsibility seriously:

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19 ESV

13. The Body of Christ is the temple of God:

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

14. The Body of Christ is the church. People are the church:

“So, guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock – his church, purchase with his own blood – over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.” Acts 20:28

15. Nothing can separate us from God’s love:

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
